I grew up in a culture where tattoo was almost treated like a sin.

People believed that only gangsters would do it.

Kids would stay away from anyone who had it.

But I started living elsewhere in my early twenties.



I met people from all walks of life who became important to me –
carrying tattoos that meant something deeply personal.

I realized I didn’t even know how many tattoos my best friend had –
there were just too many!

That’s when it hit me:
Tattoos aren’t about rebellion, they’re about stories.



People get tattooed to express who they are.

To hide a scar.

To carry someone they love.

To remember something they’ve lost.

Being a gangster probably comes as the last reason.



However, the permanence and the fear of regret still bother me.
